New PE content for FPMS
Dear 7th/8th Parents or Guardians,
The Physical Education/Health Department at Forest Park Middle School is implementing an online learning course offered through the Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin. This program will supplement the content taught in the alcohol, tobacco and other drug portion of the Health curriculum. The expectation for this course work is that all online work should occur during the school day within health class, unless there is a student that is absent for a prolonged period of time where he or she may have to access the online course work at home. Your child’s Physical Education teacher will meet with your child if there is a need for course completion outside of the school day.
If students need to access the online class at home
- Students can log in to the 7th & 8th Phy Ed eLearning course by going to the Franklin website (www.franklin.k12.wi.us) and clicking on the <STUDENTS> button on the menu bar. Students will then click on the “Children’s Hospital It’s UR Choice” button (shown below)
- Students were given a label in class with a special username and password to sign in to the course.
- Note: If the district website is down, students can go directly to www.healthykidslearnmore.com to access the sign in page for the course
- If there are any technical issues at home with the way your computer is configured, please consults this help document from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin
If you are looking for ways to support the prevention of the use of alcohol and other drugs for our teens, please think about attending a Franklin Area Parents and Students United meeting or visit their website at www.fapsu.org
FP Spread the Word To End the Word
Spread the Word to End the Word is a club of seventh and eighth graders that is determined on eliminating the R- Word (retarded) at Forest Park Middle School. Later this year, we will target eliminating other hurtful words. Our club wants students, staff, parents, and other adults to learn how hurtful that word can be and why it isn’t appropriate to say to others. We want to promote respect everywhere in our building and community. Activities we have planned for this year include a creating a bulletin board in the front entrance of our school, pledge signing drive at lunch, fun scavenger hunts, hosting games at Activity Nights, hosting the school’s very own talent show, and more! We are looking forward to this year and we hope to see you at our events!

FP New Math Carnegie Program
Dear Forest Park Parent/Guardian,
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction adopted the National Common Core State Standards that emphasize more in-depth learning in all areas. Franklin Public Schools has selected the Carnegie Math program for grades 6 through 11 as the best way to implement the standards. We are excited about the opportunity it presents for more engaging and self-paced learning in math.
One of the features of the new Carnegie Math program is a web-based component that students can access at home. We encourage students to work on MATHia at home but it is not required and adequate time will be provided at school for this, as well. Teachers will also provide access to MATHia at school outside of math class time such as:
- Before/after school
- During Core Plus
- Computer lab will be open on Monday nights from 3:15 - 4:15 for students to work on MATHia
Because everyone has different personal computers, operating systems, and browsers, we've put together some resources to best help you to access MATHia (Elem & MS) or Cognitive Tutor (HS) online.
- Review this resource to troubleshoot your home computer: Carnegie Home Computer Help
- Contact Carnegie, who is best equipped to handle questions beyond the Computer Help resource
Thank you for supporting your child in this new math venture!
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to Give Each School Its Own Report Card
The 2012-13 school year will bring many exciting improvements to each child’s learning in the Franklin Public Schools. This year will also bring changes to the way schools themselves are evaluated by the state.
