Fifth grade students at Ben Franklin, along with science teacher Sharon Hushek, won third place in Disney's Planet Challenge for their project entitled "Prairie Pals: Planters, Promoters, and Preservers".

Students learned about and restored their school prairie, cleared invasive species, planted new plants, and laid the ground work to maintain the environment by creating field guides and children’s books to inform other students about the prairie.

The students won prizes and funds to continue the project, as well as a feature on Disney’s website.
